Boiling Crab & Other seafood fusion restaurant reviews:

As some knows I’m a big seafood fan, if it swims I’ll eat it!

I’ve recently came to notice that Boiling Crab, the first original successful seafood fusion food have declined a lot in quality compared to all the smaller new pop-ups.

Since they’re a franchise, their supplies are bought in mass bulk with very little to no quality control. The seafood are very bad quality and usually very old. As opposed to the smaller shops that actually goes out on a weekly routine and pick/buy their seafood fresh.

The shell fishes (let’s say most popular are shrimps/crabs/lobsters) from Boiling Crab are a lot smaller, usually mushed and spoiled at a 30-40% ratio, as the quality of the small pop-ups are only 5-10%. I’ve recently ordered half a dozen raw oysters from BC, and 4 of them are mushed and sour spoiled. The oysters from other pop-ups are actually sweet and fresh!!! (Yes I keep count of all them searoaches I munch down! 😈)

Then let’s talk about their fried menu. BC don’t even check fry temperature or cook time. Twice in a row me and my best friends family went to BC (as we we’re good loyal fans of BC), they undercooked their chicken fingers (still raw inside) on two distant different occasions and my niece got stomach flu and threw up just few days ago.

To set things clear, there’s no actual disgruntled feelings towards BC. They have very good customer service and a great franchise with all the popularity they have built for themselves, that not a lot of new competitors can come close. But the concern that I see in their poor food selection due to large scale buy, and bad food handling could potentially create a mass scare for the people about seafood due to let’s say one bad season of seafood. Then seafood everywhere will go up in prices due to stricter enforcement.

Here’s a notable mention for the seafood underdogs. Their seafood are fresher! Juicier! And much more unique recipe flavors according to that restaurant chefs personal mix on the ingredients.

Don’t be too alarmed of BC, but do take more awareness to their food and question their cooking methods. Seafood are like any other food, if not cooked right you can get really sick. And don’t confuse them for other chains and create mass hysteria of seafood sickness.
